Brett Favre RetirementSince all these rumors have started about Brett Favre the Packers have been put in a bad situation. No matter what they do they will upset someone. At this point I can only see three possibilities come out of this decision. Number one is that Favre stays retired. The second choice is that Favre returns to the Packers. The final choice is that Favre returns to the NFL with another team. I will wait with my opinion until the end of this article. I will discuss the facts, the pros, and the cons of every decision. How to get a Packers Autograph

There is a lot to get out of Packers training camp but one thing pretty much everyone wants is autographs. While everyone wants autographs, everyone can’t get autographs. I have been attending Packers training camp practices since I was very young and in that time I have come across many things that improve your chances of getting an autograph. I have been hunting for autographs at training camp for around 12 years so I have a good idea what helps improve your chances of getting an autograph. I have decided to share some of my tips to anyone who wants to improve their chance of getting an autograph. In total there will be 13 tips that will lead up to the start of training camp. I can’t guarentee these will help your chances but in my past experiences they have helped me quite a bit so they should be able to help you as well.

Preview of the 2008 Packers

Posted by admin On July - 5 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Over the last two weeks I have looked at all the positions on the Packers roster and addressed where I felt the Packers were strong and where they were weak. This list of posts include: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Fullbacks, Wide Recievers, Tight Ends, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Linebackers, Cornerbacks, Safeties, and finally Special Teams.

If you read all my previous posts in the series you can probably already tell that I am very optimistic about this season. Last year the Packers made it all the way to the NFC Championship game and I can’t see why the Packers can’t do that well if not even better. The only significant change from last season is that Brett retired (there might not even be that change if Brett decides to come back). I won’t address what I think of the Packers with Brett Favre under helm since at this point he hasn’t come back and I won’t address it unless he does come back. Saying this I think Aaron Rodgers will have a very good season. He will obviously hit some growing pains, but with all the weapons around him I can’t imagine him not having a good season. You might think I am crazy but I think with all the growth that we will see since last season, I think the Packers have a very realistic chance of making the Super Bowl. So now we will address the 53 players that I think will make the roster. These are the players I expect will make the team and the players are also listed based on where I think they will be on the depth chart. This 53 man roster is based on who is on the team at this point in time.

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers
Brian Brohm
Matt Flynn

Running Back

Ryan Grant
Brandon Jackson
DeShawn Wynn

Fullback

Korey Hall

Jeremy Thompson
Michael Montgomery

Defensive Tackle

Ryan Pickett
Johnny Jolly
Justin Harrell
Colin Cole
Daniel Muir

Linebackers

Starting next week I will begining several other features including features on what to look for at training camp and some recommendations if you decide to go to training camp.

What do you think of my prediction for this season. Am I way off or do you mostly agree with me? Where would you make chages in the final 53?

Packers Training Camp Preview-Special Teams

Mason CrosbyFor most people special teams are far from the most interesting aspect of the team. To tell the truth the Packers special teams won’t provide very many interesting stories this training. Unlike the kicking battle last season, there really isn’t that much competition this training camp.

At this point Mason Crosby is guarenteed his job since there are no other kickers on the roster. In my opinion the Packers didn’t really have to add any kickers for competition since Crosby wasn’t going to lose his job anyway. In my opinion Crosby should have been the NFC’s representative in the Pro Bowl last season. All that was in his rookie season. I expect him to be even better this season since he has had a year to adapt to the NFL. Don’t be surprised in Crosby isn’t in the competition for the Pro Bowl spot this season. Packers Training Camp Preview-Safeties

Posted by admin On July - 4 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Atari BigbyThe safety position presents is an interesting position for training camp this season in my opinion. Next to QB (as long as Brett doesn’t return) the safety position is probably the least experienced of any position on the entire team. While there are no rookies at the position we could possibly be starting a 2nd and 3rd year pro. The safety position is also one of the few positions that will have a competition for a starting spot. Despite all the questions I think our safeties could be special this season. Our safeties will have to develop but I think these are realistic expectations. For the first time in a while I think our safeties could finally begin becoming a strength. Read the rest of this entry »

Brett Favre Update

Posted by admin On July - 3 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

To update Packer fans on the latest in the Brett Favre saga, there have been a couple things that have come out since my last update. The biggest update is that Brett Favre has finally responded to the rumors by saying that they are indeed rumors and no one should make a big deal out of them. At this point you need to believe what Brett says the most since he obviously knows what he is going to do. Some people are probably going to say that he is just saying that they are rumors but he is still planning on coming back. While these people might end up being right (at this point I doubt it) you can’t jump to conclusions with no real proof to back them up. To me it seems like Favre probably had a weak time and thought about coming back but realized why he retired in the first place and that was enough to show him that he should stay retired. To read more about the latest update check out JS Online’s Favre to Biloxi: ‘It’s all rumor’, and Yahoo’s Favre considers return to NFL or does he?.

The other update is that Al Jones (the reporter at the Biloxi paper that Brett has reported news to before) thinks that Brett is coming back. He “claims” that Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy forced Brett to retire this offseason and Brett has decided that he can still play and wants to. This report is a little suspicious in my opinion for several reasons. First Brett Favre, Mike McCarthy, and Ted Thompson all said that the Packers management wanted Brett back for another season. Some people will probably say that Brett just lied. I don’t believe this since Brett has always been known to express his true feelings and not hide anything. The other reason I think it is suspicious is the fact that Al Jones is going to be writing Brett’s autobiography. So I pose a quick question. Which will sell more copies? A book about Brett leaving on his own terms or a book filled with controversy where Brett was forced to retire? I am guessing that book #2 would sell many more copies, so Al Jones has something to gain out of claiming Brett was forced to retire.

If there are anymore updates I will keep reporting the latest news. In the meanwhile what are your thoughts on this whole situation?

Brett Favre to Return to the Packers?

Posted by admin On July - 2 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Brett Favre RetirementThe latest rumor spreading around the internet is that Brett Favre is having second thoughts about his retirement. According to ESPN he has been talking with the Packers about coming back to the team. Since these rumors have come to light many Packer fans are having a lot of questions. At this point I wouldn’t get to worked up about this rumor. While Favre has gotten the itch to come back, this isn’t very surprising. I knew he would think about coming back just before training camp began. Give it a week and I am guessing Brett will realize that he made the right choice when he decided to retire. One of the articles I read said that the Packers essentially begged Brett to come back but he decided that retirement was the best thing for him. I think he will realize this pretty soon. I bet this wouldn’t have been such a big story but ESPN had to make a big deal out of it like usual.

Packers Training Camp Preview-Cornerbacks

Posted by admin On July - 2 - 2008 1 COMMENT

Charles WoodsonThe cornerback position is a very interesting position on the Packers this season. I can see many different things happening with our CBs this year. I think they could be great but they could also be terrible. I think this mostly comes down to the fact that Al Harris and Charles Woodson are getting older. Al Harris showed at the end of last season that he had left a step and if he can’t continue to do well at bump coverage at the line, he is in deep trouble. Charles Woodson also has his injury concerns. He hasn’t been as injury prone as he was in the past but he has missed a couple games due to his injuries and you never know when injuries will creep up. I think our success at the cornerback position relies exclusively on whether Charles Woodson and Al Harris continue to play at their top level. Read the rest of this entry »
