Stories from around the Internet (July 1st, 2008)

Scouring the internet there are two stories that stick out today. The first story is called Chill, New England, There’s No Denying Brady Now. This is a list of the top 50 players in the NFL according to Pete Prisco. Since this is a Packers blog I will only address the two Packers on the list. Charles Woodson is number 18 and Aaron Kampman is 45. After looking at the list I would have to say that Pete Prisco doesn’t know a whole lot about the Packers because if he did he would have added at least one more player to the list and Kampman would have been listed higher. I don’t know how a team that almost won the Super Bowl last season only has two of the best players in the league. Players I think shoul have possibly made the list include Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Ryan Grant, Al Harris, and Nick Barnett. While they obviously don’t all deserve to be in the top 50 I think at least one of them should have.
The other story that caught my attention was Breakout Breakdown. This story was also done by Pete Prisco but this time he at least showed some knowledge of the Packers. This article lists the top 30 players that are in for a breakout season this year. So far the list only contains #21-30 but there are already two Packers. Brandon Jackson is 28 and Johnny Jolly is 21. I agree with both of these picks since I think both will have good seasons. I personally would have ranked Jolly higher since I think he is line to show himself as a force at the DT position. Since he has only addressed 21-30 I would think of other players that I think might breakout this season. The list I came up with includes Cullen Jenkins (if he gets over the injury problems), Allen Barbre (if he gets to start), Aaron Rodgers (I think is very likely as long as he stays healthy), Ryan Grant (If you consider him not broken out yet), Donald Lee (unlikely but possible), Greg Jennings (In my opinion he has already broken out though), James Jones (if he continues to improve), Justin Harrell (if he gets over his injuries), AJ Hawk (if you don’t already consider him broken out), Atari Bigby (if he can improve his coverage), and Aaron Rouse (if he gets to start). As you can tell the Packers have many players that can breakout this season and hopefully many of them do.
What do you think about the stories? Do you agree with the lists? If not which Packers do you think should or shouldn’t be on the lists?
