The latest rumor spreading around the internet is that Brett Favre is having second thoughts about his retirement. According to ESPN he has been talking with the Packers about coming back to the team. Since these rumors have come to light many Packer fans are having a lot of questions. At this point I wouldn’t get to worked up about this rumor. While Favre has gotten the itch to come back, this isn’t very surprising. I knew he would think about coming back just before training camp began. Give it a week and I am guessing Brett will realize that he made the right choice when he decided to retire. One of the articles I read said that the Packers essentially begged Brett to come back but he decided that retirement was the best thing for him. I think he will realize this pretty soon. I bet this wouldn’t have been such a big story but ESPN had to make a big deal out of it like usual.

If I had my choice I would hope that Brett stays retired. At this point in the game I don’t think Brett returning is the best option for the Packers. The Packers have already moved on. If Rodgers is regulated to a backup again it could hurt his confidence or he could just demand a trade. At this point Brett also isn’t in the best shape. I am guessing that he hasn’t worked out nearly as much as he has in past offseasons since he had no reason to work out as much.

If Brett was insistent in coming back my next choice would be to try and get Rodgers to be willing to be the backup for one more season. I know this has no chance of happening but it would be my top choice if Brett did decide to come back. Brett played really well last season and I think he will play great once again. The Packers also won’t have to go through the developmental process that they would have to go through with Rodgers. I am a little worried about Brett when it starts to get cold since he didn’t play well in the cold last season.

If Brett does come back I hope that it never comes down to him being traded to another team or being cut. I just hope this never happens. I want Brett Favre to retire a Packer. I can’t imagine and I never want to see Brett Favre playing for another team. Brett spent pretty much his whole career with the Packers and I would hope that he would retire a Packer.

At this point I wouldn’t get worked up about this rumor until either Brett Favre confirms it or something comes out of it. I think it is just Brett Favre missing the game of football since training camp is coming up. I think Brett will soon remember why he retired in the first place and realize that retirement is his best choice.
