Brett Favre Update

To update Packer fans on the latest in the Brett Favre saga, there have been a couple things that have come out since my last update. The biggest update is that Brett Favre has finally responded to the rumors by saying that they are indeed rumors and no one should make a big deal out of them. At this point you need to believe what Brett says the most since he obviously knows what he is going to do. Some people are probably going to say that he is just saying that they are rumors but he is still planning on coming back. While these people might end up being right (at this point I doubt it) you can’t jump to conclusions with no real proof to back them up. To me it seems like Favre probably had a weak time and thought about coming back but realized why he retired in the first place and that was enough to show him that he should stay retired. To read more about the latest update check out JS Online’s Favre to Biloxi: ‘It’s all rumor’, and Yahoo’s Favre considers return to NFL or does he?.

The other update is that Al Jones (the reporter at the Biloxi paper that Brett has reported news to before) thinks that Brett is coming back. He “claims” that Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy forced Brett to retire this offseason and Brett has decided that he can still play and wants to. This report is a little suspicious in my opinion for several reasons. First Brett Favre, Mike McCarthy, and Ted Thompson all said that the Packers management wanted Brett back for another season. Some people will probably say that Brett just lied. I don’t believe this since Brett has always been known to express his true feelings and not hide anything. The other reason I think it is suspicious is the fact that Al Jones is going to be writing Brett’s autobiography. So I pose a quick question. Which will sell more copies? A book about Brett leaving on his own terms or a book filled with controversy where Brett was forced to retire? I am guessing that book #2 would sell many more copies, so Al Jones has something to gain out of claiming Brett was forced to retire.

If there are anymore updates I will keep reporting the latest news. In the meanwhile what are your thoughts on this whole situation?

Brett Favre to Return to the Packers?

Brett Favre RetirementThe latest rumor spreading around the internet is that Brett Favre is having second thoughts about his retirement. According to ESPN he has been talking with the Packers about coming back to the team. Since these rumors have come to light many Packer fans are having a lot of questions. At this point I wouldn’t get to worked up about this rumor. While Favre has gotten the itch to come back, this isn’t very surprising. I knew he would think about coming back just before training camp began. Give it a week and I am guessing Brett will realize that he made the right choice when he decided to retire. One of the articles I read said that the Packers essentially begged Brett to come back but he decided that retirement was the best thing for him. I think he will realize this pretty soon. I bet this wouldn’t have been such a big story but ESPN had to make a big deal out of it like usual.

Jason Taylor a Green Bay Packer?

Posted by admin On June - 20 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

The hot rumor going on around the internet the last two days has been that Jason Taylor might be traded to the Green Bay Packers. This same trade was talked about around the draft and nothing came out of it. While I am not counting out the possibility of it happening, I wouldn’t get my hopes up just yet since many things need to be worked out yet. While I wouldn’t rule out the trade yet, a lot needs to happen if this trade is going to happen.

I can see at least four things getting in the way of this deal getting done. The first is whether Jason Taylor actually wants to play in Green Bay. If that is not the case there really is no reason to trade for him since he probably won’t give his all. The second concern is that he is going to want a raise. If a trade would happen the Packers would have to be willing to pay him more than he is currently getting. The Packers have a bunch of cap space but everyone knows that Thompson is pretty thrifty with his money. The first two concerns probably won’t affect the trade getting done but the final two will have a huge impact on the trade overall. They also make an impact on one another. The last two concerns are compensation for Taylor and how much longer is Taylor willing to play. It has been rumored that Taylor only wants to play one more season. If that is the case it will really impact the trade. Obviously we won’t be as willing to give up as much if Taylor only wants to play one season. If he is willing to play more than one season the Packers would be willing to give up more in order to get him.

So what do I think about the trade? I think the addition of Taylor could make the Packers defense one of the best in the league. Just imagine a defensive line on passing plays of KGB, Jenkins, Kampman, and Taylor. That would be a QB pressure machine. Taylor would really help the Packers defense but I only want him at a fair price. If Taylor is willing to only play one more season at max I would give up a 3rd round pick or a player (players like Ruvell Martin, Abdul Hodge, etc.)/pick combination. If we can get a guarentee of some sort for two or more seasons I would look into giving up a second round pick. I doubt this trade will ever work but if it does don’t expect it to be finished until just before training camp.

So what do you think about the posibility of a Jason Taylor trade? Do you even want him on the Packers roster and if so how much would you be willing to give up if he only plays one season or more than one season. Feel free to leave a comment with your own feelings about the trade.
