As an LSU fan, I feel qualified to comment that Matt Flynn will have the ability to become a starter for several teams even if not for the Packers. Matt doesn't
have the arm of Jamarcus Russel, but when he is healty, is a great scrambler. He is hard to pin down in the back field. Most of his senior year, he was never close to 100%, and therefore didn't get to show his scrambling ability. Even knowing that, his team won the national championship. Matt is super smart, and picks up the offensive schemes very quickly. He, like most rookies, may need severl years to learn the pro schemes, but once he does, look out. As for the ladies, they all love him, he he. He could pass for Matt Damon's twin brother.

bring Brett back and i'm cool with Thompson, if Thompson doesn't bring him back then that is a mistake and he'll have to deal with the consequences because the packer nation wants Brett

There have been some really good comments so far on this topic. At this point the Packers have a very tough decision to make. At this point the best thing would be for Favre to stay retired. It's not because Favre isn't the best QB, at this point he is probably the best QB. The reason Favre retiring would be best because I seriously don't know how torn the Packers locker room will be if Favre either returns to the team or is on another team this season.

Since this doesn't look very likely I think the best thing the Packers could do is let Favre come back to the Packers but make him compete for the job. Favre is obviously going to win the job so I don't know why he is so afraid of competing for the starting job. If the Packers let Favre come back the Packers are going to have to do something to smooth things over with Rodgers. Obviously Rodgers will be upset if he loses his starting spot after working so hard at becoming the starter this offseason. I think the Packers might be able to smooth things over if they give him an extension and a bump in pay. The reason we need to smooth things over with Rodgers is that we don't want him to demand to be traded. Rodgers is signed for both this year and the next but if Rodgers is hurt by Favre returning he might never want to play for the Packers again.

This would probably be the second best option since I think it will probably be better for Rodgers to have another year on the bench instead of being constantly compared to what Favre is doing. If Rodgers has some struggles and Favre is playing well I know Packer fans will boo Rodgers and he will lose confidence.

If some of you think that I don't like Favre, you have misinterpreted my words. I love Favre (my favorite player of all time) but Favre really needs to make a decision. If he is committed to playing I would let him come back as long as we can keep Rodgers happy as well.

And as far as losing Rodgers

Packers can place a transition tag on him next season - losing him is NOT a forgone conclusion

And admin Said - Favre for one more year means throwing away the next four ? How can that be? IN sports the future is NOW and Rodgers can be retained - AND you have a possibly more talented that Rodgers Brian Brohm with one or two years experience under his belt when Favre retires

The only thing Rodgers has proven thus far - was that he exercised poor judgement in making rude comments about the fans - that in very limited playing time he showed potential and that in that very limited duty he sustained injuries

Can you label him as injury prone from that very small playing experience? Not really - but you cant discount it either. So you have a superbowl caliber team that could end up in Rookie Brian Brohms hands... Brohm might also end up a stud - as could Rodgers - but what are the odds either one of them makes a huge impact in their first stint as a starter ?

Whats wrong with all you people - you have to grab opportunities - and the packers shot at a superbowl is here right now

I thought the goal of every team each year is to win the superbowl.

If Favre made a mess of the situation by retiring - its time to get over it - As talented as Rodgers may - or may not be.. We dont know yet - Favre proves the best option right now to win a superbowl.

Teams get a small window once in a while with the players capable of winning the superbowl - The Packers have that right NOW - So why the heck would we run the risk of blowing that with an unproven QB - When we have a 3 time mvp BEGGING TO COME BACK AND PLAY WITH PLENTY OF TIME BEFORE THE SEASON ! iTS NOT LIKE HE IS ASKING TO COME BACK THE WEEK BEFORE THE FIRST REGULAR SEASON GAME

RODGERS COULD BE A STUD - WHO KNOWS

BUT TED THOMPSON IS MAKING A HUGE GAMBLE WITH THE CHAMPIONSHIP WINDOW THE PACKERS HAVE - FREE AGENCY - INJURIES - YOU NEVER KNOW HOW LONG THAT CHAMPIONSHIP WINDOW STAYS OPEN

WHY WASTE IT !

ITS TIME FOR TED THOMPSON TO GET OFF HIS HIGH HORSE AND PUT THE BEST AVAILABLE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD - THATS THE GENERAL MANAGERS JOB

WHETHER FAVRE HAS CREATED A MESS OR NOT - DOES ANYONE REALLY CONSIDER RODGERS RIGHT NOW AS THE BETTER QUARTERBACK? NO - SO TED - PUT THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD WITH THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN - DO YOUR JOB

Let Favre play another year - he only has so much time left. At the end of this season I don't want to look back on a (possibly) shitty Rogers year thinking what miight have been. One of them is proven and on a clock, one is a unproven, untested, and likely not the future of the team anyway.

Drafting Rodgers was the true waste. He's in the last year of his contract, he has less than 40 completions, and has amassed more injuries than touchdowns in his four years at Green Bay. Thompson was wanting a world without Favre as soon as he landed as GM, hence getting rid of Rivera and Whale and drafting Rodgers.

How is this kid supposed to be the future of our team? Brian Brohm has as many starts as Rodgers. Thompson is driven by his ego to make up for the fact that we could have drafted players in 2005 that would have made an impact on this team like Roddy White, Heath Miller, Corey Webster rather than someone who is still yet to prove their worth.

The 2008 draft is when we should have been drafting QBs to gain experience with Favre, not 2005. Rodgers will forever be a sidebar to a legacy. I wish him the best of luck, but he's just going to be joining the club of the likes of Quincy Carter, Jon Kitna, Jay Fielder, Steve Bono, and Scott Hunter.

If anyone on this roster is the QB of the future, it's Brian Brohm.

i completely agree with admin. Favre was one of our best players for the past decade, he never let the game go to his head. But he does need to understand, that as highly as everyone thinks of him we are tired of his retiring/ unretiring, and the consequence this time should be that he has to compete for his starting position again. This i believe will make everyone happy, including Ted Thompson, if it doesn't then he needs to rethink his priorities, as Favre could lead the team to a superbowl, as he knows the team extremely well, and how they play. But we also need to give Rodgers a shot this year, so he may improve and perhaps next year take Favres place. This we did not do last year, which if we do not bring Favre back could lead to a losing season for the Packers
