What do you think about Brett Swain? Do you think he will even make the team? If you think he will what do you expect out of him this season and seasons to come?

The Favre Saga Over?

I know I promised to stay away from the Favre saga until there was a conclusion but I think we might finally have a resolution. This is a PFT rumor so take that into consideration when you read this. Since this is a rumor there isn’t much proof backing it up. According to PFT Favre has decided to stay retired. Supposedly the Packers offered three teams that they would trade him to but he declined all three teams. So at this point it seems like Favre will remain retired. This doesn’t mean that the story will go away though (I wish it would though) since the chance of Favre coming back is always an option if for example the Packers or any other team in the league has an injury to their starting QB.

Since this is only a rumor there is no guarentees that it is the truth but I personally think this is true since for the last couple of days I have predicted that Favre will stay retired. As training camp is approaching I think Favre is realizing that he will have to work out as hard as he has the last couple of years. I just don’t think Favre has the committment to go through all that work. I think the only places Favre would be willing to put that much work into playing for would be the Packers (as the starter) and the Vikings (since they would be Super Bowl favorites with him). Hopefully Favre will stay retired this time. If Favre truly decides to quit his return plans and doesn’t cause anymore distractions, I will consider this whole thing as water under the bridge and I will love Favre as much as I ever have. Favre is just the victim of not being able to make a decision and stick with it.

While I hope this rumor is true that doesn’t stop the media from keep bringing it up. I just hope that this doesn’t become a distraction for training camp and the 2008 season.

NFL, The Hypocrites

Posted by admin On July - 22 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

While this is far from a ground breaking story for the Packers, it does show how big of hypocrites the NFL truly is. If you haven’t heard yet, Charles Woodson recently started his own wine company. When the NFL found out about it though they told Woodson that he couldn’t do any interviews in order to promote his wine since it might convince young children to start drinking. What about all the beer commercials you run during your games, NFL? This is a blantent sign of hypocricy. So as long as you are personally getting paid to promote alcohol it is ok but when one of your players try to do the same thing its a bad thing? To top that off how many kids really drink wine in the first place. If kids are going to drink they are going to drink cheap beer not expensive wine. I don’t know if I am alone but this story is yet another example of how the NFL is filled with a bunch of hypocrites.

It’s OK for the NFL to get you drunk, but not Charles Woodson

Rivera retiring as a Packer

The title essentially tells it all. Marco Rivera is going to resign with the Green Bay Packers in order to retire as a Packer. It’s always a nice thing to see when long time players leave for another team, come back in order to retire as a Packer. Marco Rivera was a very good guard for the Packers but the Packers obviously made the right choice letting him leaves since he got hurt every single year since he left the Packers. It’s nice to see Rivera back where he deserves to be. In green and gold.

The Week Leading Up to Training Camp

Posted by admin On July - 21 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

For those of you who didn’t know, next Monday training camp officially begins. Since we have only one more week left I decided to write a post about what we can expect out of the next week. I think Packers fans have a lot of news to look forward to this upcoming week.

First we have the issue of our rookie contracts. At this point the Packers ahven’t officially signed any of their rookies. With only one more week to go, the Packers front office has their work cut out for them in order to get all the rookies signed. I am guessing that they will all get signed since the Packers haven’t had a hard time signing their rookies for a long time. Also with no first rounder it will be much easier to sign everyone on time. So far only one report has come out saying that the Packers are close to signing Jordy Nelson to a four year contract, Packer Update has the scoop. I bet you will see a bunch of signings in the next couple of days since once the Packers get one player signed they usually come quickly due to a snowball effect.

The second story is whether Ryan Grant will be signed and ready to practice at the first training camp practice. According to Grant’s agent it sounds very likely since both sides made a big step a couple days ago. The main reason that this has taken so long to get worked out is the fact that Ryan Grant is in a very unique position. No player has ever been as old and made as big of impact and still was an exclusive rights free agent. Ryan Grant really doesn’t have a lot of bargaining power since the Packers have exclusive rights to him for at least two more seasons after this year. Grant’s only power comes from the fact that he could hold out. I would be shocked if both sides don’t come to an agreement by the end of this week.

The third storyline is actually the biggest at this point in time. The Favre saga will probably make a turn this week. This will probably be the week that we either see if Favre will return to Green Bay, Favre will stay retired (still the most likely in my opinion), or be traded to another team. Hopefully when Favre came to Green Bay for the Hall of Fame Inductions, he had a chance to talk with McCarthy and Thompson and figure out a solution to this problem. At this point I think the likelyhoods of each situation are as follows: Favre stays retired (60%), Favre Plays for the Packers (25%), Favre Gets Traded (15%). Everyday that goes by know will make the chance of Favre staying retired increase since no team is going to want him if misses quite a bit of training camp especially since he won’t know the playbook.

The fourth story revolves around Johnny Jolly. New details might come out of the case and either Jolly’s case will worsen or the charges could be dropped (who knows at this point). Jolly’s suspension could also be handed down this week even though I think the NFL will wait until something happens with the criminal charges until they hand out a suspension.

So those are some of the news stories that Packer fans can anticipate in the upcoming week. As far as what you can expect this upcoming week on Packers Nation (as long as there isn’t any breaking news).

Tuesday-The conclusion to the How to Get an Autograph series.

Wednesday-Tips on how to get the most out of your training camp experience.

Thursday-Training camp battles that people should keep an eye out for.

Friday-Fan mail and questions about training camp and the upcoming season. While I am not an expert I would love to give my opinion on your question. If you would like to send in your question you can contact me at packersnation@myblogisonfire.com.

Saturday-Questions heading into the season.

Sunday-My predictions for the season.

Also sometime this week I will post a link to a list of places that a Packers fan should check out while they are in Green Bay. The article will be on one of our other sites The Tour Guide.

Also be sure to keep checking back throughout training camp for all the latest training camp updates. While I personally will only be able to go to 3-5 practices (I will have detailed reports and pictures for these practices), I will still update about who stands out and who gets closer to their pink slip every practice. Also be sure to check back on August 4th for my Family Night recap since I have first row seats (I am so excited).
